This year, after being on maternity leave and moving, we decided that we would do our own family portraits.  I had a vision of what I wanted, and as usual, based our clothing on Mattea’s outfit :)   Mattea is wearing clothing from one of my favorite stores, Naartje, and then we chose complimentary colors and I pulled in the pink with my scarf.  For this session, I wanted a more urban setting, so we drove to downtown Everett and found a neat alley to shoot in.

A Family Studio Photo

December 31, 2011

This year, I had the opportunity to take the family portraits for our church’s photo directory.  It was a lot of fun to show the families that studio photography does not have to be sit, put your feet on the x, hands here, and smile.  I brought my new green couch and used more organic posing to give a more modern studio look to the photos.

Here is our photo for the directory.

My daughter Mattea, turned two and a half right before her brother was born.  We moved about six weeks after Wyatt was born, so getting photos of Mattea didn’t happen until after the move.  One summer day, we were able to spend some time in our new back yard taking some photos.  We then moved into the house to the studio set up to get a few more fun and artistic photos.  It is amazing how quickly she is growing up.

These photos are ones I had been wanting to get for awhile. I had seen some beautiful photos that another photographer had taken with an older girl and a scarf wrapped around her head. I wanted to see what I could come up with using one of my scarves and Mattea. I wanted to use more dramatic lighting, and I am really happy with what we got.

My little guy at three months

December 30, 2011

Wow, does time fly.  I cannot believe how quickly my little guy is growing.  He is eight months old now, but since I am so far behind, I have to share his three month photos still :)   When we took these photos he had so many different expressions on his face.  I love capturing facial expressions during three month photos, as babies have really started to become expressive at this stage.

My Newborn Baby Boy

December 30, 2011

Back in April, I delivered our beautiful baby boy.  It was a much easier birth than with Mattea, and the adjustment was pretty easy.  Mattea is a great big sister and did pretty good adjusting to having a baby brother.  I decided to do my own newborn photos, as we had paid for birth photos (see the photos here and here from One Tree Photography) and I had so many ideas of what photos I wanted of Wyatt.  Well, photographing your own newborn is much harder than I anticipated.  I am happy with the photos we were able to get, but had so many other ideas I wanted to try.  I did not think about how hard it would be to keep Wyatt asleep when he could smell milk on me and wanted to wake up and nurse every time I moved him :)

I am so happy with the shots we got with each one of us. These photos are what we chose to hang on our wall. Each one is a 16×16 canvas wrap, and they look great hanging in our entry way.
