One day at the end of fall, I met the Trudel family for their family portriats. We met at a new location for me, and while it involved a lot of walking (which was actually great for all of us), it has also become one of my new favorite locations for outdoor photo sessions. The mountains in the background are what sold me on the location, and what will keep me coming back to see what it is like in different seasons.

The Trudel family is a lot of fun, and they love to joke around and just be themselves. The oldest boy, Jack, is also really into photography. I love talking to young people who are already really passionate about photography!

This family’s story is one that I also feel that I need to share, to remind people the importance of getting a family photo taken, as well as the importance for women to take care of themselves and know the toll stress and high cholesterol can take on a body. Becky, the mom, recently had a heart attack. Luckily, she is doing fine, and just needs to make some lifestyle changes, but boy, what a scary time for the family and a good reminder that you never know what is going to happen. Take the opportunity to get some family photos, make memories with your family, and think about what is truly important in life.

This year, after being on maternity leave and moving, we decided that we would do our own family portraits. I had a vision of what I wanted, and as usual, based our clothing on Mattea’s outfit Mattea is wearing clothing from one of my favorite stores, Naartje, and then we chose complimentary colors and I pulled in the pink with my scarf. For this session, I wanted a more urban setting, so we drove to downtown Everett and found a neat alley to shoot in.

Our family photos, taken with a tripod and a remote:

This summer, I recieved an email from a couple who had found me on the internet. They had been married the previous fall and were not happy with the wedding photos they had gotten. They were so unhappy with those photos, they did not print any of them. So this summer, they decided to get dresssed up again and have bride and groom shots taken, so they would at least have some photos they were happy with to remind them of their special day.

We had so much fun walking around downtown Snohomish and using some great walls and locations. Corinne and Tommy are a great couple, and I am glad they were able to get some photos to give them happy memories of their wedding day.

My daughter Mattea, turned two and a half right before her brother was born. We moved about six weeks after Wyatt was born, so getting photos of Mattea didn’t happen until after the move. One summer day, we were able to spend some time in our new back yard taking some photos. We then moved into the house to the studio set up to get a few more fun and artistic photos. It is amazing how quickly she is growing up.

These photos are ones I had been wanting to get for awhile. I had seen some beautiful photos that another photographer had taken with an older girl and a scarf wrapped around her head. I wanted to see what I could come up with using one of my scarves and Mattea. I wanted to use more dramatic lighting, and I am really happy with what we got.

Back in April, I delivered our beautiful baby boy. It was a much easier birth than with Mattea, and the adjustment was pretty easy. Mattea is a great big sister and did pretty good adjusting to having a baby brother. I decided to do my own newborn photos, as we had paid for birth photos (see the photos here and here from One Tree Photography) and I had so many ideas of what photos I wanted of Wyatt. Well, photographing your own newborn is much harder than I anticipated. I am happy with the photos we were able to get, but had so many other ideas I wanted to try. I did not think about how hard it would be to keep Wyatt asleep when he could smell milk on me and wanted to wake up and nurse every time I moved him

I am so happy with the shots we got with each one of us. These photos are what we chose to hang on our wall. Each one is a 16×16 canvas wrap, and they look great hanging in our entry way.
